Balance audio, music and captions

Keep dialogue intelligible and make text readable in the final frame.

Make the dialogue the priority

Listen to the complete scene at a comfortable volume. Lower competing music or ambience before simply raising every voice. Check the beginning and end of each clip for sudden sound changes. Use the audio controls available in the project to shape the transition between clips.

Add music with a purpose

Choose music that supports the scene’s rhythm and emotional direction. Avoid covering important pauses or the end of a line. Use audio you have the rights to include. A track that sounds good alone may feel too busy under a conversation, so review it in the actual edit.

Review captions in the output frame

Where caption tools are available, check the text, spelling, line breaks and timing against the spoken words. Keep captions clear of faces and essential action. Review them at the intended viewing size, especially for portrait films, and confirm they appear correctly in the exported file.
